What Type of Wax Is Used for Table Saw Tops?

The best wax to treat the table saw top to allow the wood to glide better and as a table saw top protection against rusting is paste wax.

Paste wax is a thick, creamy wax that was originally made from traditional beeswax. Today we have more sustainable varieties made from carnauba wax. These are more popular because of their slightly better durability.

What to Look for in Table Saw Wax?

  • Keep silicone oil away from your table tops. Fish eye issues may develop if the silicone comes into contact with the piece of wood.
  • Avoid applying car wax on the top of your table saw because it isn’t designed for use with table saws. It has silicone in it, which can cause stains and paint problems.
  • Only buy the well-known types of paste waxes from the ones listed below, and don’t buy imported paste wax for table saws you don’t know. They can have another evaporation rate of the solvent supplied with the waxes.

Can I Use Beeswax on My Table Saw?

Yes, you can use beeswax as a table saw top protection but keep in mind that it will protect less long than paste wax. Due to the carnauba wax, paste wax is a more durable table saw wax than beeswax.

If you want to go for long and good protection, I recommend using one of the eight table saw waxes from the list above.

Can I Use WD40 on My Table Saw top?

Well, the answer here is yes and no! You can use it to clean the table saw top, but not to lubricate it because WD40 is silicone based. So if you have used WD40, before you add a table saw wax, you’ll need to clean up the WD40. You can do this with a product that breaks down the grease, such as benzene.
